Sonnie Badu describes Intimacy as a love album, saying it encapsulates the fullness of his life and musical journey. He candidly shared that at one point unfortunatley, he was ready to step away from music. “I was done with music,” he said, “but my wife told me, ‘You’ve done it all, but your children haven’t seen you perform on that stage yet.’”

Now a father of six, Sonnie revealed that his children are his biggest fans and that family has become central to his music. “What people don’t know about me is that I’m a shy boy,” Sonnie confessed, adding that many of the songs on Intimacy were created in some of his most private moments, such as while showering. He believes God used all kinds of people to inspire these songs including his little daughter Alana, making this album even more special to him.

On September 8, 2024, gospel music lovers gathered for a night to remember at the first-ever Praiz Unplugged grand finale, hosted at Trinity Baptist Church, UPSA, Accra-Ghana. From start to finish, the event was a whirlwind of talent, faith, and musical magic.

The evening burst into life with a powerful opening prayer and an exhilarating group performance by the finalists, who wowed the audience with a heartfelt rendition of Joe Mettle’s ‘Amen’.

Our charismatic hosts, Priscilla and Agyemang, kicked things off with flair, introducing the incredible contestants and our star-studded judging panel: Perez Muzik, Vickie Amoah of Sunny FM, and the ever-charming Horst a.ka. HJ.

Lordina the Soprano took the stage and absolutely dazzled everyone, setting an electrifying tone for the night.

Friday: That ‘First Session’ Feeling

Couples settled in for the first session; “Affair-Proof Your Marriage” on Friday night which was facilitated by Amos Kevin Annan & his wife Evelyn, co-founders of Hearts and Habits Foundation. It was two hours of eye-openers, awkward glances and group conversations. But by the end of the session, couples were ready to work out differences, connect more and safe guard their marriages.

Saturday: Early Birds, Life Changes, and Couples Night Fun

Saturday kicked off bright and early with an optional workout at 6:00am led by Nkrumah fitness. After breakfast, Michael and Letitia Ohene-Effah, co-founders of LeadAfrique international began their session on “Navigating Major Life Changes and Transitions Together.”

It was four hours of exploring how to navigate life’s curveballs with better understanding.

By lunch, everyone was ready for a breather – and perhaps a nap.

The afternoon offered more free time, with some taking a stroll of the beautiful grounds and indulging in some much-needed connection.

Come dinner time, everyone reconvened, slightly more rested and a lot more ready for Couples Night. Couples bonded over team work of building the tallest straw tower. It was a blast, proving that a little fun while learning about teamwork goes a long way in keeping the spark alive.

Sunday: Vows, Serenades, and All the Feels

Sunday morning started with breakfast, followed by a session on “Cultivating Gratitude & Appreciation” with Rev. Dr. John Gordon Egyir-Croffet. Couples were encouraged to look past the dirty socks left on the floor and really focus on the little things that make their partners amazing. In the end, there were definitely a few sniffles and possibly one or two people who had to quickly pretend they had something in their eye.

The real highlight of the day came after the renewal of vows, where couples took a moment to reflect on their journeys together and reaffirm their commitments in a beautiful ceremony that had all the feels.

A big shout out to Marlin Resort for perfectly executing a surprise for everyone by inviting the Winneba Youth Choir to serenade participants both in the conference room and by the poolside during lunchtime, filling the air with beautiful harmonies that added a unique touch to the day.

Some participants got on the dance floor and showed off their Sunday vibes.

A Retreat to Remember

This retreat was indeed a great opportunity for couples to reconnect, laugh, and remember why they fell in love in the first place. The sessions, from parenting to finances to conflict resolution, were all designed to help couples grow closer, and the cluster sessions made it feel like a safe space to open up, share, and sometimes overshare.

As everyone packed up to leave Marlin Resort, it was clear that this retreat wasn’t just about taking a break from the routine – it was about investing in each other, having some good laughs, and maybe even learning a thing or two.

With renewed love, gratitude, and a few new inside jokes, couples headed home with full hearts and big smiles, already looking forward to the next one.
