Accra, Ghana – Rising gospel minister Norman Michael Griffiths, popularly known as Norman, has opened up about his journey into music, revealing that his passion for ministry was shaped by a life-changing encounter with God in 2015.
Speaking in an interview on the Sunset Drive with Baaba Ocran on Sunny 88.7 FM, the young worship leader shared how growing up in a family of musicians naturally introduced him to music, but it took a personal encounter with God to transform it into a lifelong calling.
Norman, the son of renowned musician Michael Griffiths — the first host of the Inspirational Morning Drive on Sunny 88.7FM — said music has always been part of his family life.
"My father is a musician. My brothers, my sister — we're all musicians. I've grown up with music all my life," he said.
Although he regularly accompanied his father to music programmes as a child, he admitted he initially saw it as simply following his father's lead. It wasn't until around 2015, when he began writing his own songs, that he realized God was developing the gift within him.
A Scripture That Changed Everything
The defining moment in Norman's spiritual journey came on his birthday in 2015 when his father gave him a single Bible verse instead of a physical gift.
The scripture, Colossians 1:10, challenged him to "walk worthy of God unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work."
Norman described the moment as simple yet transformative.
"It wasn't anything dramatic, but after that day I felt a shift in my mindset. My decisions began to change, and I realized God had become real to me personally," he explained.
He said that encounter marked the point where God ceased to be merely "his parents' God" and became his own Lord and Saviour.
A Ministry Built on Intimacy with God
For Norman, worship is more than music — it's about cultivating a personal relationship with Christ.
He explained that while corporate worship is important, believers must also develop private moments of fellowship with God.
"My direction for ministry is intimacy — creating an environment where people can get to know God for themselves," he said.
Moving Worship Performance
During the interview, Norman performed some of his original worship songs, including "All For Me," a heartfelt reflection on Christ's sacrificial love.
The song proclaims a love with no greater expression than laying down one's life for the one you love.
He also ministered another original worship piece centred on a prayer to be taught to know, in the end, that God is all one needs.
The performance drew warm responses from listeners, with one message describing him as "a heart of a worshipper" and encouraging him to continue availing himself for God's work.
New Music Coming Soon
Although his music has not yet been officially released, Norman disclosed that he has completed a project and is currently deciding whether to release it as a single or an EP.
He assured listeners that new music will be available very soon.
