Customer Excellence Is Ministry, Says Zipporah Danquah

Customer service should be treated as more than a transaction. It is a ministry and a daily expression of faith in the marketplace.

That was the central message from Zipporah Danquah when she joined host Briana on Sunny 88.7 FM as part of the station's October on Sunny FM series.

Danquah argued that the businesses that truly stand out are those that lead with a mindset of service. Serving customers with integrity, she said, is a form of stewardship, because every business exists to manage the opportunities God provides to solve problems and create wealth.

Every Role Is Part of One Body

Customer excellence is not the job of front-desk staff alone. From the back office to the people who meet customers face to face, everyone in an organisation is part of one connected body. When staff understand this, they stop seeing customers as figures on a sales sheet and start seeing them as people who came looking for solutions.

Grace in the Face of Difficult Customers

Danquah advised business owners and staff to meet demanding customers with grace rather than defensiveness. Keeping a calm, positive attitude while handling a complaint, she noted, can turn a tense moment into a turning point and win customers who stay for years.

She was candid that the popular saying "the customer is always right" does not hold up. Customers can be mistaken, and some can be difficult. But right or wrong, every customer must be treated right. Professionalism and respect should never slip.

Build Systems, Not Just Good Intentions

Hospitality cannot depend on mood or personality alone. It has to be built into how a business runs, through clear policies and well-defined processes.

Managers should also be honest about their people. A staff member who struggles with patience may serve the business better in a role that does not involve dealing directly with customers.

She recommended empathy mapping, a tool that helps teams put themselves in the customer's position and prepare for the situations they are likely to face.

Train for a Mindset Shift

Danquah encouraged organisations to invest deliberately in leadership and emotional intelligence training, saying such development helps employees move from simply doing a job to pursuing excellence.

Business as Stewardship

When business is seen as a tool for God's work, she concluded, the focus shifts from chasing profit alone to building lasting, positive relationships with customers and the wider community.

As Colossians 3:23 puts it, "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."
