Last Thursday was one of those days.
Heavy rains began around noon and continued throughout the afternoon. At about 4:00 p.m., I picked up my sons and headed back to the office to print an assignment for one of them. What should have been a simple errand turned into a long and challenging night.
By the time we returned to our area around 8:00 p.m., we were met with a sea of vehicles. The road leading to our home was completely gridlocked. Traffic had come to a standstill.
Hour after hour passed.
As the rain continued to affect movement across the city, we remained stuck in the same traffic. By 11:30 p.m., after sitting on the road for more than three hours with my sons in the car, I turned to the One who never fails.
I prayed a simple prayer: "Lord, please get us home by 12:30 a.m."
Not long after, a gentleman approached my vehicle and asked if I could reverse slightly to allow a Mercedes-Benz to maneuver through. I gladly obliged. Then he asked a question that would change the course of our journey.
"Are you going beyond the bridge?" he asked.
When I answered yes, he informed me that the bridge ahead had been flooded and that no vehicles were able to cross in either direction. He then pointed me to an alternative route.
Since he was heading in the same direction, I invited him into the car. Along the way, he guided us through unfamiliar roads and rough terrain that I had never used before. When he reached his destination, he gave me further directions before stepping out.
Though the route was long and challenging, we continued on our way.
Then something remarkable happened.
At exactly 12:30 a.m.—the very time I had asked God for—we pulled into our home safely.
Not 12:25. Not 12:40.
Exactly 12:30 a.m.
Looking back, I see God's hand in every detail: the prayer, the stranger who appeared at the right moment, the alternative route, and the safe arrival home. What seemed like a frustrating and impossible situation became another reminder that God hears the prayers of His children and faithfully directs their paths.
Our God is faithful.
Even in traffic. Even in uncertainty. Even when the way forward seems blocked.
He always makes a way.
